Making Waves in the Workforce

Easterseals Middle Georgia provides the guidance necessary to enable in-school students with disabilities (ages 14 to 22) and/or out-of-school youth with disabilities (ages 14 to 24) to make sound vocational choices, improve self-esteem, become employment focused and set career and placement goals.  These services include Job Exploration, Pre-Employment Skills Training, Self-Advocacy Training and Work Based Learning. 

One of the benefits to this program is that it provides disabled individuals with a chance to grow their skills in a controlled environment and under close supervision while producing streetlights for the State of Texas DOT and other places. This provides attendees to the program with an opportunity to learn in a productive environment where their skills are challenged and developed to prepare them for future employment. 

Jessica Sigmon, a participant in the Work Readiness Training program here in Dublin, GA, speaks about her experience now in a glowing review:

 " I Enjoyed my time doing the Work Readiness Program. I Learned how to manage my soft skills such as time management. I recently started work in the foam shop and have learned many things about the foam. Easterseals has shown me a lot, and I enjoy working here."

Her experience is not uncommon, as many of the graduates from the work readiness program go on to live successful complete lives with social and work skills that they have attained. Some of these clients have now been with our foam shop plant for a decade or more. They are excited to provide an integral service back to the community as they cut and shape the non-explosive foam to prepare it for the wings of Air Force Aircraft.
